I'm working on a puzzle game for mobile phones with Chapin Boyer.

I haven't been playing as many video games as I'd like, recently. Instead, I've been playing board games and tabletop role-playing games that let me socialize with friends while we're playing them.

I played Mysterium recently, and I would describe it as Cluedo but co-operative. Excellent fun, though I'm prone to long stretches of silent over-thinking as the ghost/clue-giver role. The voting system is a great way to keep players engaged while not actively being their own turn.

I've also DM'ed a few sessions of Mazes in the last few months. I love the tight focus of the system - start directly in front of the dungeon, No BS tavern scene with a call to action that the players inevitably ignore. I love the Darkness mechanic, it makes the DM's machinations visible to the players which makes it feel fair, rather than contrived or mean.

I'm waiting for a good chunk of time to sink my teeth into Etrian Odyssey Nexus and really savour the experience.

Now Reading

Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Burkeman. It always feels pertinent to remind myself of our limited time. It's the scarcity that makes our every choice and experience valuable.

I'm also reading the Bhagavad Gita, but don't tell my mum.
